My Second Season Fence
The Silver Lining
Updated: Friday, Aug 1, 2014
Hello, I’m Chaz Marler from Pair Of Dice Paradise here today with two neat boxes to open! But first, something to ponder.

You find yourself walking through a peaceful meadow one sunny afternoon. You’ve got on your favorite hat, some comfy shoes, and the weather is perfect. Suddenly, you come to a very tall fence in the middle of the meadow, blocking further progress forward. The fence travels as far as you can see to both the left and the right, so there’s no bypassing it that way. Your desired destination lies on the other side of that fence, so what’s the easiest way to get yourself onto the other side of it?

The solution is simple. Throw your hat over the fence. Now, you have to find a way over it if you want your hat back.

I received that advice many years ago, and it’s something that comes to mind any time I’m facing a difficult challenge. An obstacle can seem intimidating, but once we’ve made a commitment to the challenge by throwing our hat over the fence, we will find a solution.

Alright, so why all this talk about hats?

Well, did you know that September mark Pair Of Dice Paradise’s one year anniversary? With our second season just around the corner, I’ve been giving a lot of serious thought about what the goals for this second year will be. Up until now, the time taken to produce every video you’ve seen has been snuck in, a few hours here, a few hours there, on evenings and weekends.

Anyone with a creative outlet is familiar with how much of your time, energy and soul is poured into the content you produce, whether it’s a video podcast about board games, or board games themselves. Which brings me to the first box, which is from Nazca games, who took the initiative to send us two games to talk about: Tricks & Treats and Volt: Robot Battle Arena. We’ll see if these games get their wings in upcoming episodes. Receiving such encouragement from members of the industry is one of the things that tells me that people are finding value in Pair Of Dice Paradise’s content. That’s a responsibility that I don't take lightly.

And that’s one of the reasons why I want to announce that Pair Of Dice Paradise will be launching a fundraiser in September, with the goal of obtaining the financing necessary to grow it from something produced during precious spare moments, into something sustainable as an official, part or full time operation.

Now, even with the overwhelmingly positive reception that Pair Of Dice Paradise has received thus far, I know that reaching the goals for this coming season is going to be a challenge. The fundraiser specifically being my fence.

So, in this second box here is my "hat". I just received a prototype of one of the backer rewards that will be available during our fundraiser, a two inch, polished gold Pair Of Dice Paradise coin with enamel inlays. If the rest of the coins turn out like this sample, then I’m sure everyone is going to be very pleased with them.

The prototype’s been approved and the rest of the coins are now on their way, so my hat’s traveling through the air now, ready to land on the other side of this fence on September 1st when Pair Of Dice Paradise’s fundraiser begins. The cat’s out of the bag. And when I clamber over this fence in September, I hope each of you will be joining me on the other side of it. Thank you for listening, and I hope to have more board game reviews, previews and commentary videos posted for you soon. Take care!
